In 2014, my wife Brittany was running a real estate business alone out of our kitchen. She did $1 million in sales that year by herself. I saw what she had built and made a decision. I went all in.
Over the next eight years we built that business from a kitchen table to $65 million in annual sales and $1.6 million in revenue. We had a team, a brokerage, an HGTV show that ran for two seasons and is still syndicated worldwide. By every measure, we had made it.
Then it fell apart.
A franchise deal that cost us over $300,000 and delivered almost nothing. A market shift that nobody saw coming. The show ended and fourteen agents walked out the door. We burned through savings just to keep the lights on. There were moments where I was not sure we were going to make it through.
We sold the brokerage. Stripped everything back to what we actually knew was working. Rebuilt around a smaller, focused team and a clear strategy.
In the first quarter of 2026, that team closed $30 million in sales.
What brought us back was not a new tactic or a better marketing strategy. It was returning to a sequence. Four phases that every business has to move through in order to grow without losing everything in the process.
I have been a minister since 2011. I believe God was in every part of that journey, including the parts that almost broke us. That belief is the foundation of how I coach.
I now teach that sequence to small business owners who are ready to stop being the ceiling of their own company.
