How to Stop Spinning Your Wheels and Start Leading Like a CEO

If you are running a business and you feel stuck, you are not alone. Maybe your revenue is flat. Maybe your team is not performing. Maybe you are working harder than ever but cannot tell if it is even helping. Maybe you're just exhausted.

Most business fatigue comes when you are trying to make decisions that affect everything. When to hire. When to cut. When to grow. When to pull back. Every choice feels like it might hurt you if you guess wrong, and many times it can.

I understand exactly what that feels like. I have lived it.

When I started my company, I had five years of real estate experience and I had just earned my broker’s license. My wife, Brittany, was launching her hit HGTV show "Selling the Big Easy." Everything looked exciting on the outside. Inside, I was overwhelmed and had no one to guide me.

I tried everything I could think of. I joined networking groups. I reached out to business leaders. I asked friends for help. I hired coaches and consultants. They were smart people, but none of them really helped me make the real decisions I needed to make.

Here is something I did not understand at the time. Most coaches and consultants are specialists. They know one thing very well, but that does not always help you run the whole business. Some were great at sales. Some were great at marketing. Some had great advice. But many of them had never led a company themselves. They came up with ideas and had all sorts of opinions, but they could not tell me what to do next.

It felt like I was renting someone else’s brain instead of learning how to lead my own company. I kept ending up with more questions and fewer answers.

Meanwhile, I was struggling with staff, I had no solid systems, and I was always running out of money. I did not understand how to scale or even how to structure the business. I was guessing on everything.

When it came time to sell the company, it finally hit me. If I had someone who actually understood how to run and grow a business, I would have reached the right decisions years earlier. I would have saved time, money, frustration and a lot of energy. It took me five years to realize the business model I built was not scalable the way I tried to scale it. Not because real estate brokerages cannot scale, but because mine had a mix of one strong agent and a lot of brand new ones. It was not the right structure for growth.

The ironic thing is that we had a great brand. Our message was "Real Estate Should Be Personal." We had a strong digital presence and a loyal audience. But I grew it the wrong way. I grew it without a plan. I didn't start with the end in mind. And most of decisions I made came back to haunt me later on.

Here is what I learned from all of this. Sometimes your business does not need to grow bigger. Sometimes it needs to grow better. It needs to improve slowly. It needs to tighten systems, strengthen leadership, and make steady progress instead of chasing size.

Over the last few years, I have dedicated myself to learning everything I wish I had known back then. I became certified with Maxwell Leadership and with Small Business Flight Plan. I learned real frameworks that have helped me, and I know they will help you as well.

Now this is what I do. I help business owners build stronger systems, understand what works and what doesn't, and make more money without burning out or getting caught in endless decison loops. I help them understand their business, their numbers, their structure, and their next steps. I help them stop guessing and start leading.

If your business feels stuck or confusing, or if your decisions feel heavy and uncertain, we should talk. You do not need to figure this out alone. You need a guide who has lived it and can walk you through it. You need a certified business strategist.

If you want your business to get organized, healthy, and profitable again, this is where it starts. Let's talk today.
